Fiber Optics Splicer

 

Duties and Responsibilities includes but not limited to:

  • Splice and test in both inside and outside plant applications
  • Analyze test results and have the ability to troubleshoot and correct any faults
  • Read, interpret and understand all types of drawing or documents related to a fiber splicing project
  • Execute all work assigned in accordance with the Company Health and Safety policy
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment
  • Accurately record work hours and complete all health and safety requirements for the job
  • Promptly report project progress to the appropriate personal and communicate any issues or expected delays
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Min 3 years of splicing experience
  • Holds a valid G license and a clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to carry, lift and work with heavy objects/equipment (e.g. manhole covers)
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools including gas operated drills and chainsaws
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to carry, raise and climb a ladder
  • Competency in OTDR and other testing protocol
  • Demonstrates effective decision-making skills under limited supervision
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
  • Demonstrates commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends and emergency call outs as required
  • Willing to travel (most of the work is in York and Durham Regions, but some projects can be in different municipalities)
  • Should have basic computer skills
